Serge - Coming Soon
Tuesday 20th May 2008
After many months of delay, procrastination and resignation, Brel finally launched it"s new menu on Thursday evening amid much fanfare. We were fully booked for the evening, which may indicate that it"s not just my parents who read my weekly updates. We were also joined by Rhona Nellany, who won a free meal for two as part of our newsletter competition. To sign up to the newsletter and become eligible for similar fantastic prizes simply enter your details in the box at the bottom of the main page.
This weeks music; on Wednesday Viva Melodia present The Streetlight Conspiracy and Haight-Ashbury. Tickets are £2 on the door. On Thursday Starsky launches his new album. It says on our website that it"s a free gig, although I"m pretty sure I met him a few weeks ago and he said it was invite only. Either way, here"s his myspace page. I"d maybe recommend giving Brel a phone on Thursday if you want to come along, as I should know more then. The number is 0141 342 4966.
We introduced not one, not two but FOUR new Belgian beers into our fridges this week. Before I mention them I"d like to point out that I’ve once more gone the extra mile for my Brel customers by signing up to an anorak beer website, so that I can provide detailed tasting notes for our new products. I don"t know about you, but I won"t go anywhere near a new bottle of beer unless I know what several obese chartered accountants from Croyden have to say about it first. Just click on the beer names and you"ll be magically transported to www.beeradvocate.com.
Perhaps the most interesting new beer is Delirium Tremens, which comes in ceramic looking bottle and has pink elephants all over it. The actual term Delirium Tremens is better known as the DT"s, which you would probably develop fairly soon if you started sinking a few of these every night, as it"s 9% and very more-ish.
Next up we have Bush Ambree Scaldis, which is a whopping 12%. On a side note, we had a staff wine tasting last night, and once we finished I thought it would be a good idea to make one of our top waitresses Christie drink a Scaldis. I haven"t heard from her since, and only hope that she"s ok...
I ordered in a couple of cases of Saison Silly
about two months ago, then completely forgot about it. So here it is at last.
Finally we have Triple Karmeliet, which myself, Kenny and Campbell received as a sample a few weeks ago and decided was fantastic.
Here"s a link to what the Beer Advocates think about Tennent"s Super. I particularly like the Italian reviewer who says he prefers it on draught. Where can I find this tramp heaven where the Super flows by the pint? E-mail me if you know, I"ll probably throw in a free meal for the best answer. The deadline is June 5th, and my e-mail address is brelmanager@googlemail.com.
That, I think, is all I have to say this week. Come down and sample our new beers and food as soon as possible. Or else.
Cheers,
Jamie
